Green policy suggestions sent to Obama- WHOO!
Earlier this week environmental and conservations organizations presented recommendations to Obama’s transition team for green/sustainability issues. Clearly Obama seemed committed to these issues during his campaign and now it’s just a matter of sticking to these issues. In these proposals this is what stood out:
that after “eight years of environmental neglect” (damn straight) we need to press Obama to:
- Limit carbon emissions through a federal cap-and-trade system, provide incentives for companies to reduce global warming pollution and gain revenue to switch to CLEAN ENERGY. Finally.
- Restore scientific integrity
- Create new jobs through the investment in clean energy and renewed support for conservation and preservation -
Establish a Reduction Tax Credit- meaning that every less kilowatt hour used you get a credit and vice-versa, the Production Tax Credit- where you get credits for using wind/solar energy.
Clearly a lot of these things hinge on organizations and the government, but more than anything our activism and commitment to the sustainability of this country need to stand out. If we want change, then we have to live it. I’m so psyched to see what plays out. Please support these issues as though you would any other. It’s all about education and forward thinking!
